75 YEARS AFTER
THE END OF WORLD WAR II

SPECIAL EVENT CALL SIGN - OZ75MAY

75 years ago, World War II ended with peace in Europe and therefore, Denmark once again became a free country. To celebrate this happy event a group of Danish radio amateurs will be active with a special-event call sign; OZ75MAY, in the period from 1 May 2020 to 10 May 2020.

All bands inclusive WARC-bands and all modes may be used, except cross-mode, cross-band contacts and contacts via repeater or echolink.

Call sign used will be OZ75MAY/xx where the xx will be a unique number for a single operator or a group of operators, during the whole event. There will be many OZ75MAY/xx active stations online. A list of possible /xx numbers will be available on this website from around 1 May 2020.

OZ75MAY/p stations will be active from different historical QTHs in Denmark. The call sign will be on-air with different operators and will count extra for our Award (see details on the Award page).

All QSOs will be uploaded without /xx to Clublog Log Search, eQSL and Logbook of The World. We will NOT upload to other logbooks. We will try to upload all logs daily, but do not expect the log will be complete before approximately 15 May 2020.

Peace, Freedom and Reconciliation
Party of light to celebrate liberation . . .

Ever since the message of Denmark's liberation came through the radio on the evening of May 4, 1945, light has been associated with the celebration of this event. In many Danish homes, it is still a constant tradition to shine the windows on this evening.
The residents do in Haderslev too, but here the celebration has an extra and much larger element in the form of Haderslev Lysfest. The party of light dates back to 1950. At that time, Colonel Gabel-Jørgensen took the matter into his own, as he learned that there would be no official celebration of May 4. At a few days' notice, he stacked an arrangement on the legs of the Haderslev Barracks, which included hoisting Dannebrog, speeches, and that 400 candles were lit in the barracks windows. To the great surprise of the colonel, over 2000 people showed up to the event, which has since continued.

This year, hundreds of candles will also be lit at the Haderslev Barracks on the evening of May 4, and traditionally, thousands of citizens will gather to listen to the play of the original message of freedom, see the candles lit in the barracks windows, hear the candle party speech and sing along to common songs. In addition, there has also been a special lighting event in recent years.
However, Haderslev Lysfest is more than the beautiful and moving event at the barracks. In 2014, the barracks and Haderslev Municipality initiated a collaboration on a renewal of the candle party, which today includes a number of other events that all touch on the candle party's overall messages - peace, freedom and reconciliation.

The candlestick program includes debate meetings, lectures, exhibitions, music, films and theater. The many events focus not only on historical events, but also on current security policy issues. Haderslev Lysfest has up to 10,000 participants, making it one of the country's biggest celebrations of Denmark's liberation on May 4, 1945.

OZ75MAY operators will try to be QRV via Clublog Live Stream. However, there will be some delay, because not all operators will be using live logs. We try to upload full log approximately once per day including upload to eQSL and LoTW.

Caused by the COVID-19 we might NOT be much active with OZ75MAY/p. Please look at the calendar to see our planned activity.

We have opened up for QSL request via Clublog OQRS AFTER the event and when the event log is completed from all operators.
Please have some patience before you can order the QSL on paper. Also please note that the direct paper QSL will not be delivered before the border to Germany will be reopened.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at oz75may@oz0j.dk
